24th March 2015Today we want to treat you to some beautiful music from the archives, from our first ever festival, Reel Afghanistan in 2008.
When we planned our first ever festival we knew we wanted music, and when one of our team at the time, Zahra Qadir, told us about these musicians in Afghanistan, we did everything we could to bring them over to the UK.
Sharing their music to audiences in Scotland was the first time they had performed outside of Afghanistan and the surrounding countries, and the first time to a mixed audience.
They had such a great reception on their trip to Scotland they ended up coming back to the UK, doing a UK tour and performing again in Edinburgh in 2009:
In 2010 they ended up on Afghan Star, Afghanistan’s TV music contest, competing with pop and traditional musicians from across the country.
