James Longley

A documentary filmmaker and photographer who has worked in the Gaza Strip, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan, James Longley has been awarded numerous accolades including two Academy Award nominations. He took part inĀ our Reel Iraq festival in 2009 with his film ‘Iraq in Fragments’.

James Longley was born in Oregon in 1972, the son of marine neurobiologists. James studied film and Russian at the University of Rochester and Wesleyan University in the United States and at the All-Russian Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow.

He became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2007 and has won three Jury awards at the the Sundance Film Festival and a MacArthur Fellowship.
